I use this Monthly Meditation to share my life without talking about others, after all there are always at least two sides to a story. There are three different things that occurred during March where I will not get into details about because of the involvement of others. In a nutshell: drama, deception, and the days of our lives. What I will say about the many involved including myself is the power of love, acceptance, forgiveness, and gratitude (or lack of these powers).
I believe all people are good. Some radiate goodness, some have it hidden/buried deep inside, and most fall in the gray area. We try our hardest and yet sometimes we find ourselves in situations we had never imagined. We feel no person could understand us because they are not aware of what its like to be in our situation. We commit errors and if we are good people we do what we can to repent. Still, in repentance we find people who continue to judge, crucify, punish. Often times we are hurt by those we never imagined would hurt us. And when we make mistakes it’s always the sinners to throw the first rock at us.
How do we find a balance in life when we are good people who are hurt by others as well as the times when we hurt those around us? Does balance even exist? What happens if instead of the ups and downs of life we find a way to keep a straight line...what if we simply flatline.
Death will give you the end of every single problem you have ever had, you have, and will guarantee 100% that you will have no other problem in the future. Life, on the other hand, will continue to have the ups and the downs. Last month I lost my Aunt and it shook me to not only live, but be grateful for the many loved ones around me. This month as I watched “American Idol,” Stevie Nicks said to one of the contestants that when she lost her mother two months prior all her “problems” went away. Nothing was a big deal or the end of the world. How could anything compare?!
Any problems here on Earth can be solved. We make mistakes so we must apologize with our hearts. We lose the trust of others and we do the work each day to EARN the trust once more. We accept responsibility 100% for what occurs in our lives instead of claiming to be a victim of circumstances. We forgive, over and over again.
I have let go of the drama but that doesn’t mean everyone else has. Some have tried and will continue to entice me, but I know better. I stay away from those who I call the talkers. They talk a lot but never do anything. The talkers will love you when you are filled with drama and disappear without it. The talkers are takers and drain your energy.
I embrace those who dismiss the drama and see life for what it really is. Those who give their love to all, even the sinners. It’s the person who recognizes the drama for what it is, looks at you for who you are not for what you’ve done, and opens their arms to embrace you. I call those people the givers. They give love because they have it. The givers expand your energy and theirs.
the Solution for this Mad World
because you can’t help it if
there are mad people
even though nobody wants to be among mad people
Imagine a see-saw. You are up with your feet dangling in the air. You are above the opposite side. It feels good to be up; to be at the top. And then that thing weighing you down slowly starts to bring you down until you reach the bottom. Now you see the other side has become high and mighty while you remain at the bottom. Your feet don’t dangle. Instead of focusing on the comparison between where you are to your opposite; be aware of your place. If you are “up” then enjoy it but don’t forget where you came from. Don’t believe you are invincible because you aren’t. You will return back down so keep those legs ready for the soft landing. And when you are “down” feel your feet firmly planted on the ground. Embrace the power you have to always be in control of you. In any situation you can find something to be grateful for. At my worst I look to gratitude to keep me grounded. No matter what happens, you can keep it together. As much as it hurts, as much as you shake, as much as you want to stop playing the game of life...you gotta hang on. Let go of uncertainty and fear, let go of controlling others, let go of controlling the circumstances...and let God take over. You will be lifted once more.
Maybe life is not meant to achieve balance but to know where to hold your weight. Volcanoes can’t be cold like a freezer and oceans can’t be hot like an oven. The ups and downs are not good and bad, but instead the rhythm of life taking you through it all. Yes, sometimes both sides are even, but a see-saw is meant to go up and down. A snowflake is meant to be cold and when it hits your warm hand it melts away. A flame is meant to be warm and bright. Accept it.
We all visit crazytown now and again. Nothing is more important than truly living your life to the fullest. Find yourself, forgive yourself, accept yourself. Be an example.
The greatest moments in March were spending time with my family. A weekend getaway for my siblings and I; lunch with my parents at an Indian restaurant; a play date with my nephew; a girl’s night out with my cousin. March began with the wake and Funeral of my Aunt with the entire family gathered together to celebrate the life of a great woman. And because of this great woman I have continued to celebrate life...my life...no matter what.
